Inside MusiCast 'Picks Of The Day': “Rio Funk" and "Oasis", by GRP All-Stars Selected by Eddy Cabello

This is still one of my all-time favorite performances that features Dave Grusin and his GRP Allstars playing at the Record Plant in NYC in 1985. You might have this legendary performance on VHS or DVD! The whole show is worth the watch, but while you watch, keep your eyes on Vega and Laboriel. They anchor everyone. The caliber of musicianship is astounding. Williams, probably the most versatile of all on stage, nails every aspect of this performance. Carlos Vega was (also IMHO), one of the greatest drummer ever...and as you know, he influenced Jeff's drumming.

Did you catch Abe talking to Rick and Eddy about this particular performance on our recent interview with him? Lots of great insights.

Listen to Laboriel as he anchors each live track. I'm giving you two links to listen to as you watch Abe in action. Enjoy.

RIO FUNK/featuring Lee Ritenour/guitar; Abe Laboriel/bass

OASIS/featuring the late, great Dave Valentin on flute. I'm amazed as how Laboriel keeps this all in order. Vega kills it.
