Inside MusiCast 'Pick Of The Day': "Simone", by Boz Scaggs

Inside MusiCast 'Pick Of The Day': "Simone”, by Boz Scaggs. Selected by Don Breithaupt.

This week we're paying tribute to 1980 on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, continuing with this ultra-smooth disco confection from Middle Man. Written by Boz Scaggs and David Foster (like most of the album), "Simone" was the third single, and failed to make any chart noise except in its iteration as a 12" dance single. But Foster, who is also on piano and synth, and arranged everything including the strings, ensured the track would have a long shelf life. It's a fan favorite, and one of the loveliest iterations of the Boz A-Team. Jeff Porcaro, David Hungate, Steve Lukather, David Paich and Ray Parker Jr. lay down an unbeatable groove as Boz pays tribute to his femme fatale: "Here's to your eyes, and my final demise..." Throw a Manhattan down, and give it a listen.
