Inside MusiCast 'Pick Of The Day': "End Times", by Michael And Stormie Omartian. Selected by Loretta Sassaman.
Anyone who is familiar with Michael Omartian is aware that he's not only responsible for producing a multitude of hit songs, but he also held a world record for being the only producer to have scored number-one hits in three decades consecutively, the ‘70s, ‘80s and '90s.
From the beginning of his career, and working with Top A-list artists i.e. Christopher cross, Al Jarreau, Amy Grant, The Imperials, Rod Stewart, The Jacksons, Trisha Yearwood and so many more, he has always walked a faith-based life alongside his wife of 47 years, author Stormie Omartian - known for her "Power of a Praying _______" book series.
The two of them have released their own albums respectively. Every now and then I dip into these albums and I’m completely blown away by the talent that is forever engraved on these tracks.
"End Times” is definitely one of those that I keep coming back to because it's THAT GOOD!
The people on this album just can't get any better!! Jay Graydon, Abraham Laboriel, Alex Acuna, Paul Leim, Marty Walsh,Phil Keaggy, Stephen Hague, Jackie Kelso, Kim Hutchcroft, Lou McCreary, Chuck Finley, Steve Madeao with the great Bernie Grundman mastering this project.
The musicianship on this track is off the hook. From the beginning the instruments are off and running with Pop and Disco grooves, especially with the great horn work and then in the middle this crazy incredible soloing by; I’m assuming is Phil Keaggy and Abe Laboriel thumping on his bass the only way that Abe can.
Michael’s dramatic piano almost gives off a bit of the Latin vibe especially with Alex Acuña tearing it up with his fantastic playing on his congas. Someone’s guitar is chiming in with some funky moments; Marty’s? Jay’s?
CRAZY EAR CANDY in this 2 min + interlude.
A great tune with the Omartian’s desire to convey a message with a strong topic.
