Michael Thompson

Hi everyone. Michael Thompson here. I was glad to chat with Rick and Eddy on Inside MusiCast. They asked me to submit some photos of my “creative space” – where I spend time recording digital sessions and composing. It’s small, but it’s all I need to do my thing. You’ll notice my Mac setup along with some outboard equipment. My world is in sync with my vibe, so you’ll see images of friends, some gigs, friends and clients, trinkets, calaveras (mexican day of the dead skulls), art, and memorabilia, Oh, and over forty guitars (or maybe more), that I’ve collected and use often. It’s a “Maui” kind of mindset, too. Enjoy. MT

My studio setup is my getaway. I record digital sessions, demos and tons of new work here.

My equipment is basic, but it’s everything I need at home. For more complex sessions, I’ll go to dedicated studios or even other home studios for larger session work, or to rehearse for tours.

I’ve added a “wall of friends” in my studio and it keeps growing. Most of the images were taken after sessions. Can you find Carlos Santana and me?

I’ve placed a picture of Pablo Picasso’s “Old Man with Guitar” on my wall. It was painted in 1903. It shows a blind elderly musician, wearing worn clothing and hunched over his guitar while playing in the streets of Barcelona, Spain and reminds me that anyone can play if they really want to learn. And, of course, some of my guitars.

I mentioned that “Maui” vibe? It’s true. Oh…check out my “blue” guitars – hand painted.
