Rob Meany

Thank you to Eddy and Rick!

Welcome to what I like to call “Meantone Music Studio”, my fancy name for my basement home studio here in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Thanks for the opportunity to share how I write and produce my music from here. – Rob

Here’s recent photo of me in the studio.  Working hard on new solo tracks and songs for my band, Terramara.

Here’s my main recording set-up.  I run Pro Tools on a Mac Mini using at a Universal Audio Apollo X4 for an interface.  I have a LA-610 for a pre-amp and a pair of KRK KRok Monitors.  I use my old Korg Triton Pro for a MIDI keyboard/controller.

On the wall, I have one of everything just in case — I’m especially proud of the Ukulele collection, which came in handy on some of the commercial music I have written.  The tiny banjo is a family heirloom and I used to play it a lot when I was a kid.

Here’s my hardware — the UA Apollo X4 which has just enough channels for my purposes as I am usually just recording myself on guitar, vocals or piano.  I use the Mac Mini with some external hard drives for dedicated audio file recording / storage.

My main pride and joy is this Kawai baby grand which I do a lot of writing and recording on.  I treated one wall with acoustic wood panelling, and the other with a weaving that my mother made.

This is the piano I played growing up a in Duluth, Minnesota.  My parents let me take it with me when I moved to Minneapolis as an adult.  I have played it for many years, but it’s not in great shape anymore and doesn’t hold its tune.  It is semi-retired now.  I rarely use it, but it remains an instrument of great sentimental value.
